Capris for men!?!? What is this world coming to?
So I’ve been noticing over the past couple of weeks a lot of dudes wearing capri pants… I won’t pretend to be an authority on fashion, but I would just like to officially go on record that this is NOT OK!!! Come on guys, we embarrassed ourselves enough in the 80’s with the whole glamrock look. We really don’t need to do this to ourselves again.
So I did a little research and found several other blog posts going back to last summer and fall sharing my sentiments. One site even referred to them as “manpris“… Maybe this has been going on longer than I realized, and I’ve just been in denial… This is not meant as any sort of homophobic or anti-metrosexual statement. It just looks stupid!
End rant here. I feel better now…

You are going to give me nightmares about this.
This is why I have no faith in trend setters, fashion experts, and stylists. They make crap up so stuff can be sold. They laugh to the bank and then come up with the next thing to make people look stupid.
I have not seen anyone downtown wearing them yet and I hope I do not because I might have something to say. I am a fashion challenged dude but I do know enough what is awful and this is awful.
P.
I get your “manpris” rant, however, you are missing one element of the equation that has nothing to do with fashion, merely function. Welcome to the world of urban cycling. Many men (and women) in the Minneapolis area commute by bike and wear capris simply because long pants get caught in the gears, rip and get permanently greased. The alternative is to revert to the “peg leg” look (who is really willing to bring back that trend). Given the backpack, athletic shoes and that he is obviously walking in the city, I might give him the benefit of the doubt. If he had jelly shoes on, that would be another story.
Interesting point. To clarify, this picture was just one that I found on Google to use as an example. Not actually of the guys I’ve been seeing lately. They have all been hanging out at the MOA or the Starbucks near my home (Eagan). I’m doubting the guys at the MOA were biking, and I saw the Starbucks guys get in/out of their cars… But it’s interesting to know why in the world any man would ever wear these.
I’m touched that you are keeping tabs on my blog.
